Gay Pride Rally in Santa Cruz

On Sunday, June 1, Santa Cruz held their annual Gay Pride March/Rally/Festival. It was a beautiful sunny day, and spirits were high. For myself, it was the third time to join the march by walking along with others behind our ACLU Santa Cruz banner. This year, the contingent of folks walking behind the banner was larger than either of the other years I've been there, and the crowds along the street enthusiasticly greeted us as we went past. It's great to have the opportunity to walk with other members of the ACLU and get loud cheers and applause, and it happens this time of year in Santa Cruz.
There were about 20 of us clustered behind the ACLU banner, including several people for whom this was their first time walking with the ACLU. Our Gay Rights Equals Civil Rights mantra was echoed all around. And a woman who joined us with a sign proclaiming "Another Straight Catholic Woman for Marriage Equality" got people off their feet cheering all along the way. Thanks to all who put this event together. The ACLU is proud to be a sponsor and participant in such a positive, celebratory event which serves to educate as well.
