Same Sex Marriage information sources

wedding bellsThe recent decision by the California Supreme Court which gives same-sex couples the same right to marry as other couples raises questions for many. A number of sources are available, and we'd like to offer a few of these here.

Our Northern California ACLU affiliate has written extensively on the subject. See the article, and a FAQ sheet. A short history of how this came about in California is also on their website.

Efforts to delay this stride toward equality were rebuffed by the CA State Supreme Court on June 4 of 2008. See the PDF file for the official news release of that decision.

For those interested in the actual May 15 decision, the official court decision is available.

You may also want to read some detailed discussion of the risk to marriages of same sex couples (which are now being created). The risk results primarily from the November ballot initiative being pushed by those opposed to same sex marriages.

The ACLU is committed to the position that same sex couples should continue to enjoy the same right to marry as other couples, and as such will oppose the initiative.
