Privacy Rights Panel DiscussionApr 17 2008 - 7:00pm Apr 17 2008 - 9:00pm Hold a place on your calendar on Thursday, April 17, for what promises to be a fascinating discussion of privacy rights in the new era of electronic communications. The event will be held at the Louden Nelson Center, in Santa Cruz. The Santa Cruz Chapter of the ACLU will host a panel discussion regarding privacy rights in an era in which our government is acquiring vastly more powerful, and potentially far more invasive, technologies for surveillance.
"An explosion in surveillance-enabling technologies, combined with weakening legal protections of our privacy, have us drifting toward a surveillance society. From government watch lists to secret wiretaps to numbers dialed from our home phones, Americans are increasingly targets of government surveillance. The ACLU of Northern California is fighting the trend toward full-fledged surveillance. We are working to preserve the American tradition that the government must not track individuals or violate privacy unless it has evidence of wrongdoing." More details will be presented here as the other speakers and topics are firmed up. ( categories: )
