These are our Kids *Submitted by Richard Hausman on Wed, 08/27/2008 - 9:32am.
We're now setting up our Annual Santa Cruz Chapter Meeting for Wednesday, November 12, 2008. We intend to make the "business meeting" short (report on the past year's activities, plans for the next, elect a new board and such) and spend most of the time learning about the innovative juvenile detention system in Santa Cruz County. Sleeping Ban Debate on SC Community TelevisionSubmitted by scottreed on Wed, 11/28/2007 - 7:00pm.
"Voices From the Village", a television program on the local Santa Cruz Community Television channel recently featured a round table discussion of what has been referred to by some activists as the "Sleeping Ban," in reference to 6.36.010c and 6.36.010b. These and other local laws make intent to sleep or camp in a public area not intended for these kinds of activity a crime. Civil rights attorney Kate Wells, vice mayor Ryan Coonerty, and ACLU-SC board member Don Zimmerman participated in the debate. You can watch streaming video of the program online at the Santa Cruz Indybay (Independent Media Center) website. ( categories: )

Santa Cruz Chapter Annual Meeting - with Sandy LydonSubmitted by Richard Hausman on Thu, 11/01/2007 - 2:43pm.
![]() Please join us for what promises to be a fascinating evening at the Louden Nelson Center, on Thursday, November 15 from 7-9pm. ON APRIL 30, 1917, the German flag was removed from the carousel at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. The German language disappeared from local public schools and residents of German ancestry found themselves jeered and taunted when they walked down the street. Freedom of speech was quickly crushed by the Espionage and Sedition Acts and fear was loose upon the land. An off-handed comment could result in a visit by the Sheriff, loss of a job or both.
