Much of the content on this site is available for viewing without any requirement that you become a registered user and log into the site. Why then do some users register?
Several benefits accrue to registered users:
- Once logged into a registered account, you can add to the site yourself, by posting your own comments on the posted stories and events.
- By registering, you are able to sign up to receive and/or discontinue receipt of eMails from the Santa Cruz Chapter of the ACLU. These include infrequent notices of upcoming events either sponsored by our group, or with topics likely to be of interest to people interested in our constitutional liberties. At times, eMails also provide reports on current issues affecting us locally.
- Registered users can visit their My account area, and specify information about the issues they consider most important for our local ACLU. These areas of interest are made available in aggregate form to the Board of the SC Chapter to assist them in planning priorities for our local activities.
- Registered users can request establishment of on-line discussion forums with the website, where views on topics of interest may be exchanged among the registered users of the site. Registered users can make such request with an email to news@aclusantacruz.org. Please specify the forum topic requested, as well as your username, in the email.
Registration is designed to respect the privacy of the users of the website. Although a valid eMail address is required in the initial registration process, that eMail address is not made available to other users of the website, nor to any other organization. The user name is selected by the person registering, and need not be in any way an identifier useful outside the site. Within the site, the identifier serves to let other site users know which comments or forum postings are from a particular user.
